Scary Story: Girl Without a Face

This is exactly how it happened:

"Dude, my brother's back in Juvee." Jeremy sounded surprised, which was odd as his brother, Jason, was always in juvenile hall or rehab.

"Yeah? I thought he just got out."

"Man, this shit is crazy. You know his friend Pete?"

"Yeah." Jeremy was more and more animated and I was getting impatient to know the details.

"Well Pete was dating Cheryl, but when Jason got out HE hooked up with Cheryl. Fuckin' Pete wigged out. Dude, he shot Cheryl in the face."

"WHAT?!"

"He shot her man. They were all trippin' on acid together, all three of them and Pete shot Cheryl in the god damn face, and fuckin' Jason helped him bury her body up in the hills."

"Holy shit!" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "This is crazy."

"Oh man you haven't heard nothing. Jason came down from the acid and started to realize what he'd done. He called the police and led them to where they buried her. Thing is, she wasn't there anymore."

"Pete went back for the body?" I guessed.

"No man, Pete had split town way earlier. The cops say that Cheryl wasn't dead. They found her foot prints and a blood trail leading away. She's walking around the hills with no fucking face man."

My skin was crawling thinking about this girl, blind and in excruciating pain wandering around the hills behind my house. My skin is crawling now writing about it. I didn't sleep for a few days waiting for the girl with no face to show up at my window. At last Jeremy called and offered some relief.

"Dude, they found Cheryl. She walked six miles, with no face. They found her lying in the lake, drowned."

That's how it went. As an adult I tried to find newspaper articles to verify the story. I found none, nor had any of my brothers heard anything about this incident. I'm guessing Jeremy had one over on me, but he was SO convincing. The girl with no face still haunts my dreams.
