Wendy

Wendy dressed pretty dumpy most of the time and didn't seem too fond of shampoo. Then, like with Suzie, she shows up one day lookin' realy good; nice clothes, hair feathered, and a great smile from all the attention she was getting. Unlike Suzie, I thought Wendy was pretty even when she wasnt made up and I could talk to her. I asked her out and she said yes. Wendy gave me the good kissing. We made out every chance we got, in PE, between classes, durring lunch. She slid her tongue in and out of my mouth, bit at my lips, did all the things I'd been waiting for a girl to do and to do right. She was thin and felt lovely in my arms. I wished that she would dress nice more often but it wasn't a deal breaker and I had no idea how to mention it so I lived with it and enjoyed the kissing.
Then came the incident with the horse.
"Dude! Are you still going out with Wendy?" Jeremy asked.
"Yeah, why?"
"You didn't hear about the horse?"
"What are you talking about."
"Oh man, Paul and Danny and Katie were at her house Saturday and her horses were doing it so they all went to watch. Well, the guy horse can't get his thing in right, and he's biting and kicking the girl horse, okay, so Wendy runs in there and she grabs this big horse wiener and she strokes him a couple of times and then puts it in the girl horse. Everyone's like 'Ewww!' and Wendy say's 'That's what ya gotta do sometimes.' Dude, you can't go out with her. Everyone at school's calling her the horse jerker."
Wendy's appearance was something I could live with, just barely, but this I decided was too much. I loved the kisses but I wasn't going to bottom out my already lacking popularity. I had changed my style of dress over Christmas break. All I asked for for Christmas was new clothes. "Let Edward pick them out." I instructed my mom, figuring my older brother knew cool. It was him after all who had convinced me that summer that I didn't want to wear millitary uniforms to school. He also talked Chris Inagawa and I out of dressing like twins. In additon to the new clothes I added a considerable amount of Aqua-net hairspray to my look. I'd made a big effort to reinvent myself. I wasn't going to throw that away.
Wendy had gone home by the time PE came around and now a new rumor was spreading that she had pissed her pants. I felt like shit about what I was going to do. She must have known. She stayed home for a few days and when she came back to school she just avoided me. She wasn't popular enough for the gossip to really stick and the kids were on to ruining somebody else in no time but Wendy's place on the social ladder was locked down on the bottom rung.
